If you’re considering a trip to Texas to check out wine country, choosing the right time of year is essential. Texas has exciting events going on around the year from festivals and nature trails to holidays and water sports. No matter what time you visit, there’s sure to be plenty to experience. However, some seasons are more appealing to visitors than others. We’ll let you know what you can expect.

Spring

If you come to Texas in spring, you can expect to see wildflowers along all the roads you drive on. April is a favorite season for nature lovers to visit and there are many bird festivals to take advantage of. You’ll find spring festivals, trails to hike on, and as many outdoor activities as you’d like to be a part of. For those foodies out there, you can enjoy a cook off or one of the many food festivals available. You can expect temperatures in the 70s or 80s with a chance of showers throughout the season.

Summer

Even if you’re visiting for a wine tour, you may enjoy the water parks available in summer in Texas. There are also exciting festivals like the Texas International Fishing Tournament and the Great Texas Mosquito Festival. If you’re from a colder climate, make sure to keep hydrated and cooled off as temperatures might reach into the 90s with humidity to match. Although warm in the summer, visiting wineries during this time of year means less crowds and more space to yourself.

Fall

As far as activities go, Fall is the time for the Houston Hot Sauce Festival, Texas State Fair, and the Texas Renaissance Festival. You’ll also find sports games, art festivals, and auto shows on practically every corner. If you come around Thanksgiving, there are plenty of parades to enjoy. The temperatures can range from the 60s to the 80s depending on the time of the season you come in.

Winter

In Texas wine country, you can expect temperatures that change on a dime. It might be in the 50s or 60s some days, but it also may drop into freezing temperatures from time to time. However, there’s plenty to do despite the weather. You can enjoy golfing, the Cotton Bowl, or the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo while you’re in town.
