Veterans in the United States have a lot of resources available to them. Some are financial in nature while others will assist with things like housing, job placement and other needs. Although many people struggle to ask for help, the internet makes it easier for everyone because there are dozens of resources right at your fingertips. Here are four programs and types of assistance you may not be familiar with.
Federal Homeless Veterans Assistance Program
The U.S. government has an Assistance Center set up specifically for those struggling with homelessness or safe housing. This program offers safe housing assistance, job placement assistance, healthcare services, and mental health services. There is no application required for this program. Individuals are requested to visit the Homeless Veterans Assistance Program or call the VA’s National Call Center for Homeless Veterans.
Sight-Impaired and Blind Veterans Programs
Although the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs includes those who have sight impairments in their programs, there is also a special Blinded Veterans Association. This group is responsible for providing services and support for those former military members who are blind. Established during World War II, this program helps with a variety of needs.
Insurance Products for Veterans
There are life insurance, auto insurance, and other insurance products and services designed specifically for veterans, military members, and their families. Some of these exist because it is difficult for veterans to obtain insurance. Others just offer premium savings and more dedicated coverage than you would get from a typical insurance provider.
Unlimited Support and Assistance
Veterans or those who are reaching out on their behalf have access to call centers and online chat services galore. The staff on the other end of these communication lines are there to help anyone with anything, at any time of day in many cases. This isn’t really a specific veterans assistance program but more of a support network many people are unfamiliar with.
