When it comes to cheap printer ink, you only have two choices. You can either buy cheap, aftermarket cartridges or remanufactured OEM cartridges. Some remanufactured cartridges are aftermarket as well, but most are sold by the OEM manufacturer up to three times before the cartridge gets disposed of. So, which is better?
Cheap Ink
Cheap ink cartridges often cost less than remanufactured ink and give you more prints in most cases. Where these discount inkjet cartridges fall short is in print quality. For most home and office application, however, this difference is not noticeable. The only time you should see any noticeable difference is with photographs which you will want to use higher quality ink and paper for anyway.
Remanufactured Ink Cartridges
Remanufactured cartridges are cartridges that were reclaimed by the manufacturer through recycling programs and then refilled with the same ink that goes into new cartridges. Because of this, you do not have to worry about the print quality suffering as a result of buying cheaper ink. These cartridges have a counter in them that tell the OEM how many times they have been used before. Most will only cycle them three times before scrapping them. Thanks to this you can make sure you are not going to get a cartridge that is worn out for one reason or another since they only serve a limited life.
Because these are essentially the same as new OEM cartridges, you can expect the same number of prints as a new one would provide. Using remanufactured cartridges means you should not have any compatibility issues which can occur with some aftermarket cartridges due to firmware blocks by the OEM to prevent third party ink from being used.
When it comes to choosing between the discount ink and remanufactured ink the choice is essentially the same as choosing between new OEM and aftermarket, but remains are much cheaper than new OEM cartridges. In the end, the biggest question is, do you want more prints or better quality from your prints?
