Completing training to become a medical doctor within India is a difficult process. First, the student must complete the NEET exam with a top score. Even then, there are just over 80,000 seats in public and private medical colleges and universities across the country, with over 16 lakh students writing the exam.
The next challenge is the cost. Completing an MBBS in Maharashtra and in other states in the country can cost as much as 20 lakh per year in private universities which means the cost of tuition and additional expenses can be impossible for many families.
After completing the MBBS in Maharashtra, students still must write the NEET PG, which will be replaced by the NEXT exam in 2022. There are also difficulties in getting a PG seat, with only about 32,000 across the country and over 3 lakh per year apply to write the exam.
An MBBS in the Caribbean
As an alternative to an MBBS in Maharashtra, many students turn to top medical universities in the Caribbean. Choosing a medical university with CAAM-HP or ACCM accreditation provides the opportunity to complete Green Book clinical rotations at a US ACGME teaching hospital.
The close proximity of the Caribbean to the US makes this a practical option for students. In addition, these students also have a very high placement rate for a PG in the USA(above 87%), which positions the graduate to work as a medical doctor in the USA, India, and most countries around the world.
