The Benefits of Polyethylene Packaging

There are a number of packaging options out there, but one of the best and most common packaging materials is polyethylene. It is super durable, low cost and chemically resistant and these are just a few of its many benefits. Here are the biggest benefits of polyethylene packaging:

• Enhanced protection. Polyethylene does not allow any water vapor to pass through, meaning it is leak proof. The material is often heat sealed, meaning that the plastic is wrapped around the product and secured with an airtight seal.

Highly adaptable. The material is super versatile and customizable. There are a number of different thickness and clarity options, as well as several designer colors out there to make it personalized to your brand.

• Very lightweight. Polyethylene is also very lightweight and does not need much storage space. It is super easy to transport, meaning that it does not cause much of a carbon footprint during the transportation process.

Low cost. High-density polyethylene is low cost and easy to process. It’s also opaque, which is excellent for marketing appeal.

Durable. Polyethylene is also super durable and resistant to outside influences, meaning that it is great for protecting and preserving its content. High-density polyethylene in particular is resistant to punctures and tears and does not stretch as much as other materials. Grocery bags, trash bags, retail packaging bags and packaging films are all commonly made from high-density polyethylene.

Excellent rigidity. Polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, provides excellent rigidity compared to other types of plastic. The most common uses for this material are bottles, milk cartons and bottled caps.

Flexible. Low-density polyethylene is highly flexible, soft, puncture resistant and high in clarity. The material is great for packaging. Tubing, packaging of auto parts and tools and bags used to wrap products are made from low-density polyethylene, while thicker poly bags can be used to package products like nails, knives and other sharp objects.
