In the Northeastern part of Tanzania lies a 5,896-meter-high mountain, Kilimanjaro, which marks the highest point in Africa. The mountain is known for hiking, trekking, and sightseeing encounters. Here is the Kilimanjaro routes map alongside other essential information.

1. Northern Circuit Route

The Northern Circuit route is the longest, circling the mountain from the Northern side. Due to its long distance of 98km, this route is less crowded. Reaching the mountain peak through this route takes nine to ten days, and while moderately challenging, it is worth it for the memorable views.

2. Lemosho Route

Being a new route, Lemosho has fewer hikers than the other routes, allowing for a peaceful hike with exceptional views. The difficulty level of this route is moderate, with a duration of seven to eight days. The distance to be covered is approximately 70 km.

3. Machame Route

You can get to the top of Mount through the Machame route, which is a Western approach. The distance to be covered is approximately 62 km, with an average difficulty rate. Hikers can successfully complete this route in six to eight days.

4. Marangu route

Marangu, also known as the tourist or polar route, is the oldest and most developed on the Kilimanjaro route map. That also makes it more crowded since it has accommodations and related services along the way.

Climbers will need five to six days to finish the 72 km hike. While Marangu is known for its development, the route isn’t as scenic, but hikers still take it as far as they can manage. You’ll find many camping sites and lodgings on this route.

5. Rongai Route

The last and less complicated route to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro is Rongai. This route is the best for wet-season climbers because it receives less rain than the other routes. Rongai is also slightly congested, but tourists can enjoy scenic views and wildlife. It’s 73km long and takes six days to complete.

6. Other Routes

Other routes to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro include Umbwe and Shrira, mainly known for trekking rather than hiking. Umbwe is the shortest and steepest, requiring high endurance.
