Your trusty martial arts shoes won’t last forever. Here are some reasons it’s time you shopped around for a replacement pair:
It’s not as comfortable as before
Think that’s just your imagination talking? Not really. Human foot sizes change every 7 years or so. If you think your shoes feel a bit tighter than before, you might want to measure your foot size to check if your size has indeed changed. Don’t know how? Have it measured by a pro instead.
You’ve had it for years
If you’ve been using the same shoes for years, even if you just use it a couple of times a month, that’s going to result in considerable wear and tear. If the treads or soles of your shoes are now too thin, then it’s time for an upgrade, says PureWow.
They don’t pass the twist test
Hold one end of your shoes and twist them in opposite directions. You should see a good amount of resistance. If that’s not the case, then that’s a definite sign that your shoes need to go. Shop around for new ones before you get hurt using your old pair.
They’re worn out
If your martial arts shoes have been worn to the ground—and they look every inch of it—then shopping for a replacement is probably long overdue. Also, running in dingy looking shoes really doesn’t give you more drive and motivation for your sessions.
They’re not safe
Using worn out shoes can put you at risk of developing injuries and conditions. For instance, if you’re making do with shoes that feel too tight, you could end up with blisters, bunions and corns on your toes, along with long-term problems and complications.
